Cayce Mill Supply Company was founded in 1919 by Clinton H. Cayce, a South Christian County farmer. In 1920 his son, Granville L. Cayce Sr., decided to follow in his fathers footsteps and establish what was soon to be a family business. The original firm was located on the northwest corner of Eighth and Liberty Streets. The product mix for the sale included pipe and fittings, roofing materials, sawmill and grain milling supplies, farm machinery items, and farm supplies. Thus the name Cayce Mill Supply.
Following the death of C.H. Cayce, Granville L. Cayce Sr. assumed the duties of President and General Manager until his death in 1947. At this time Granville L. Cayce Jr., a senior at the University of Kentucky, was elected President and General Manager of CMS. During his leadership the company’s direction expanded into plumbing. Electrical, and heating and cooling. In addition to this expansion, an outside sales department was also established. The sales department focused primarily on Christian County and surrounding Western Kentucky areas. Granville Cayce Jr. remained President and General Manager until his death in 1991. In 1952, Robert C. Cayce graduated from the University of Kentucky. He joined Cayce Mill as Vice President and Sales Manager.
In 1954 two corporations were formed in order to divide the wholesale and retail areas of the business. Cayce Mill Supply became exclusively wholesale and moved its location to 505 East First Street. This new facility allowed room for growth and accessibility to rail siding. Standard Mill located at 306-08 East Ninth Street, remained as the retail operation. Standard Mill was sold in 1974. Expansion of lines continued with addition of outdoor power equipment parts, as well as a major line of heating and cooling products.
A disastrous fire in 1958 destroyed the CMS offices and warehouse facilities on First Street. However, the company immediately resumed operations thanks to loyal suppliers, employees and customers. A new facility was constructed on the same site in a matter of months.
In 1966, the Old Baus manufacturing building, located at First and Douglas was purchased. The Outdoor Power Equipment Division was relocated to this facility. Additional expansions included the old Goff building on First Street and the construction of a new facility on East Second Street. A third milestone in the company became a reality in 1973 when the lighting showroom was relocated to Hammond Plaza on Ft. Campbell Blvd.
In 1973, Breck Cayce, son of Granville Cayce Jr., joined the company after graduation from Murray State University. He became Vice President in 1987 and elected to serve as Executive Vice President in 1990. In 1992 Breck Cayce was elected as President of CMS. Robert C. Cayce remained Chairman of the Board and CEO until his retirement in 1999.

In December of 2001 Breck Cayce Jr. (BJ) joined the company as a fifth generation member. BJ was a graduate of Murray State University and in 2003 became responsible for the Plumbing Division of CMS.

In August of 2005 Cayce Mill Supply moved 3 of its Hopkinsville locations into the new 170,000 square foot facility on Pembroke Road. The new operations included a 10,000 square foot office complex, an 8,600 square foot Designer Showroom and 150,000 square foot warehouse. The new facility allows Cayce Mill to better service it’s customers as well as adequate storage.
